It's been several weeks since I have had an opportunity to blog about food. My Summer has been filled with some wonderful surprises, a lot of hard work and experimenting in my garden as well as new recipes in my kitchen. In short, I have been busy with the real world.

Sleeping Kittens |
We have been making our own sausages recently and I am now canning and creating preserves with some of the food I have been trading with friends. Additionally, I have been taking care of a family of cats that were found under my neighbour's shed. We have had an unpredictable season filled with Hail Storms, Thunder Storms, and more rain in a month then we would normally see all season. I caved in and took the kittens and their Mother inside as the weather and predators which live around us had become a real threat to their well being. I live in an area where Coyotes are seen on the streets and Deer are known to wander through our yards. Skunks, Fox and Hawks are also a problem. I'm also an incredibly soft hearted person.

I've taken in more strays in my lifetime then I think the average person would even dream about. I admit it...I'm a sucker for the under dog...and in that case, under cats. I did take the time to ensure the mother was not listed on the local Pet Recovery sites and had been checking notices on the off chance she herself may have been lost and not just a stray cat.
Things are settling down now as homes have been found for most of the felines. I will be focusing more attention to the blog now and adding the recipes I have created over the last few months.
Please count on recipes for Homemade Sausages, Pickles, Relishes and more over the coming weeks. I personally am eating a diet which has fewer preserves, however, their are some amazing condiments and side dishes which can be created through canning. It's a joy to share all types of foods.

Spice Blend |
For me, Fall is my busiest season, produce prices are lowest now, Trading is active and the yield from the garden mean I will be scrambling to make items to fill our pantry and freezer.
For now, it's time to get the house cleaned and prep what I can for our winter season. I'll begin posting recipes weekly again.
Please Enjoy!
